These images are from May 2011, mostly in Liguria, Piemonte and Venice. On this trip, I was able to get into some rural churches in the area where both my father’s family and my wife’s father’s family are from. Many of these churches are normally locked, except during services, and are both surprisingly ornate while somewhat in a state of decline. In these photos, I have tried to capture the inherent reverence one senses that transcends their current material condition.
